well despite a hectic schedule, lots of planning for Tales and our American whiskey tour and a ton of work sitting on my desk, I have found my thoughts drifting back to Gregor throughout the week. Sadly I have had to break the news to a few people who were traveling and didn't hear about it over the weekend and that of course stirs up memories of the friend we have lost.
There was an amazing gathering in London on Sunday at LAB where we all talked, cried, laughed, told stories and of course drank to the memory of Gregor. It was amazing to see so many people who's lives have been touched by this remarkable character! We all drank jager and tequila in his honor (boy did we drink!) and I think he would have chuckled to see Tim and John back behind the bar in LAB making drinks and causing chaos (I know it made me smile!)
We were planning to start doing a 'what we are drinking and with whom...' type thing on our blog starting this week, but we have decided to put it off for one more week and put this up instead.
We would like to put some drinks on our database in honour of Gregor so we are inviting you all to submit a recipe to dan@bittersandtwisted.com or sarah@bittersandtwisted.com the rules are simple:
1) the drink must contain tequila and jagermeister
2) the name should be a bit cheesy!
3) it needs to taste good
4) we are always open to bribery, so invite us to your bar and make one for us if you want to...
5) winner gets a bottle of Jager and a bottle of Ocho plus their drink will be featured on our website when the full site goes live.
simple enough? get mixing!
Oh and while we're at it, anyone wanting to make a donation to the fund that has been set up to commemorate Gregor, please drop Rox a line at rlautenbach@mac.com and she will send you the details. The fund will aim to put up something permanent to remember Gregor by so that we all have a reminder of our friend.
anyway, here's our first attempt from last night
the Stirring Tribute Cocktail
60ml blanco tequila (we used 7 Leguas)
20ml Jagermeister
15ml Noilly Ambre
3 dashes Angostura bitters
2 lemon peels
twist one peel over the mixing glass and drop in. Add the remaining liquid ingredients and cubed/cracked ice. Give it a good long stir (until you get chocolate notes when you taste it) then strain into a coupe and garnish with the second lemon twist. raise the glass in tribute to the G unit and enjoy!
